This is excellent and true. Ukraine is succeeding at fighting corruption, and even the Ukrainian people are unaware at its depth. So they see all these successful prosecutions and they think the government is not successful at rooting out the kleptocracy.
It’s much like using record numbers of encounters at the southern border to complain about border security. An “encounter” means the individual was either arrested or sent back to their country of origin or transit. It means border security is actually working! It’s a good thing.
Same thing in Ukraine. They’re weeding out corruption. They’re prosecuting more and more. This is a good thing!
I think part of it is that they want badly to join the EU, and they can’t if they’re a Soviet-style kleptocracy. It’s also a self defense issue, with Russia next door. And finally, the people are just sick and tired of it. It’s a huge part of why Zelensky was elected. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯
Can you speak about this?

Considering that corruption is/was endemic under USSR control, I'm actually surprised they are doing that well.

I’m glad they’re improving, though.
