I received this in a UPS delivery to my home on Tuesday. It is my late father’s World War II bomber jacket, which I had refurbished. After several weeks in the care of a leather specialist, it finally arrived home.
The following day I watched a live stream broadcast as Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu addressed Congress. During his speech, in which he robustly defended his nation’s war against Hamas terrorists, the Prime Minister labeled anti-Israel, pro-Palestinian activists “useful idiots.”
“Useful idiots,” indeed.
Meanwhile, during his speech, thousands of such protesters took to the streets near Capitol Hill, burning American flags, blocking streets, setting off smoke bombs, and causing mayhem. In addition, they also sprayed painted graffiti on statues and other monuments and replaced American flags with the Palestinian colors.
The useful idiots also chanted their usual slogans: “Globalize the Intifada,” “From the river to the sea, Palestine will be free,” and “Netanyahu you can’t hide, we charge you with genocide.”
Ho-hum. Same old tiresome shibboleths.
They did exhibit some noxious creativity, however. The previous day, protesters released maggots and crickets into the Watergate Hotel, where Netanyahu and his wife were staying. They also set off fire alarms. Proudly claiming responsibility, the Palestinian Youth Movement posted their handiwork on Instagram. Classy.
Watching Netanyahu’s speech, I thought of my dad, who was part of a B-17 crew that bombed Nazi railheads, oil fields, and munitions plants in southern and eastern Europe, as well as some sites in Germany. One of those bombing missions included Oswiecim, Poland, the site of the infamous Auschwitz death camp.

So 80 years after the very summer of 1944, when he and millions of other “boys” fought to liberate Europe from the evil of Adolf Hitler and the Nazis, useful idiots are literally calling for another genocide—the death of Jews, especially those who live in Israel. They’re the epitome of fools who either never learned history, or would rather forget it. They also have no moral core and are willing to follow whatever is the “Hot New Thing” on campuses and social media, allowing them to feel oh-so-righteous while their lives lack substance and introspection.
Who Is Behind the Protests?
Some of the usual suspects are responsible for the Washington, DC, protests, such as the ANSWER Coalition, along with the Palestinian Youth Movement, Code Pink, and the People’s Forum. Some groups have ties with terrorist organizations. The Palestinian Youth Movement and some others are connected to the WESPAC Foundation, which are major players in the BDS (Boycott, Divest, Sanction) movement. Code Pink is allied with a pro-China network funded by wealthy businessman Neville Roy Singham. Meanwhile, Jewish Voices for Peace, whose leadership is openly listed on the “Arrest Netanyahu! Surround Congress July 24 with the People’s Red Line for Palestine” protest, gets funding from organizations such as the Soros-funded Open Society Foundation, the Tides Foundation, the Rockefeller Brothers Fund, the Firedoll Foundation, and Kaphan Foundation.
And, of course, Iran has been pulling strings, too. On Thursday, White House national security adviser John Kirby expressed his concerns about Iran’s influence in fostering disruptions, stating that while much of the protests are organic, the Director of National Intelligence has revealed that Iran supports and provides financing to these groups.
In recent weeks, Iranian government actors have sought to opportunistically take advantage of ongoing protests regarding the war in Gaza, using a playbook we’ve seen other actors use over the years. We have observed actors tied to Iran’s government posing as activists online, seeking to encourage protests, and even providing financial support to protesters.
But don’t count out Communists, either, even though that sounds like 1960’s propaganda to post-modern sensibilities.
Dave Rich, expert on antisemitism at the Community Security Trust in London, writing at “Future of Jewish” on Substack, provides the receipts of such a card-carrying Communist promoting anti-Israel Jew hatred:
Jodi Dean is a professor at Hobart and William Smith Colleges in the United States, and she found the sight of Hamas paragliders flying from Gaza into southern Israel on that fateful morning “exhilarating.”
“Who could not feel energized seeing oppressed people bulldozing the fences enclosing them, taking to the skies in escape, and flying freely through the air?” she asks. These were “moments of freedom” that “made it seem as if anyone could be free.” ….
Dean is a member of a small Communist party in the United States — the Party for Socialism and Liberation — and there is, ironically, something quite bourgeois about a person who enjoys all the comforts of professorial life in the United States escaping their mundanity by fantasizing about being a Hamas fighter flying to freedom.
Rich continues:
Ultimately, Dean’s article is just the latest version of an argument that sees the Palestinian struggle as the spearhead of anti-capitalist revolution the world over. It is an essay-length version of all those “Globalize the Intifada” chants.
This thinking has its roots in the 1960s, when Marxist and Trotskyist movements in the West resigned themselves to the fact that the Western working class was never going to live up to their revolutionary dreams, and transferred that hope instead onto the liberation movements of the Global South (or Third World, as it was called at the time).
Meanwhile, these puppeteers pull the strings of useful idiots, who have scant knowledge of what happened in Germany in the 1930’s, or don’t care. So antisemitic/anti-American manipulators encourage them to be good little protesters against war, since their heads are bereft of any sense of history, logic, or morality.
Useful Idiots Who Ignore All Logic and Sense
While I was watching Netanyahu’s speech on Wednesday, the network cut away to the pandemonium taking placing in the streets of DC, courtesy of anti-Israel protesters.
One reporter spoke to a woman who shrieked — literally shrieked — that Israel was committing “genocide” in Palestine. When the reporter asked her about the October 7 massacre, she screamed that Israel had committed the murders in order to blame Hamas. A bloodthirsty false flag, if you will.
Oh, okay.
Other useful idiots seem to think this image of Anne Frank in a kaffiyeh makes a pertinent statement which will convince others of the rightness of their cause:
A sports journalist posted this image at X, noting “Bombs dropped over a sunny sky as a child plays football — the powerful reference on the shirt worn by Palestine’s flag-bearer Waseem Abu Sal at the Olympics Opening Ceremony.” (Let’s remember that Israeli athletes were not allowed to wear yellow ribbon pins denoting support for the hostages and demanding their return, while this individual proudly displayed his love for genocide.)
Do Ms. Hamed or Mr. Abu Sal care that a rocket attack — most likely from Hizballah — landed at a soccer game in the Golan Heights of northern Israel and killed at least 12 children and young people on Saturday? Or do the victims not count, because they were Israeli children?
And if the anti-war protesters care so much about Muslims, where are their tears for Uyghur Muslims held in concentration camps by the Chinese Communist Party?
Moreover, if they have a heart for all children, did they shed tears when a Russian missile struck a children’s hospital in Kyiv, which specialized in childhood cancers, on July 8?
Where were their protests then? Never mind. They can’t blame Jews for those events.
And if they think that a “ceasefire” will end the Hamas-Israel war, what would happen then? Does anyone with a thinking brain believe that Hamas would honor any agreement? Did they forget what happened in 1938 when British Prime Minister Neville Chamberlain tried to appease Adolf Hitler? Did Hitler honor the paper he signed?
We know the answer to that. We also know what would happen if Israel tried to appease Hamas with a ceasefire.
Just as in 1938, the Hamas-Israel war is not truly a squabble over land or territories, even though useful idiots want you to believe it is. It’s about the idea that Jews should not exist — the same vile notion that led Nazi Germany into annihilating nearly half the known worldwide Jewish population and then plunged Europe into six years of hell. It took the efforts, and often the lives, of millions of Allied soldiers—like my dad—to remove that monstrosity from the globe.
And here we are again.
My father passed away in 2019 at the age of 95. He rarely spoke of the war to me, expressing merely the humility of so many men from that war: “Well, we had a job to do.”
But he did tell me that “we had to get rid of Hitler. He was one horrible son-of-a-gun” (ever the gentleman, he didn't say “son-of-a-bitch”).
And now as I look at his old bomber jacket, I wonder what he would be thinking of the world right about now?
Brilliant article. Thank you so much, and deepest gratitude and respect to your father. His memory is truly a blessing ❤️
